The Argentine Government's 'crazy' Discourse After La Albiceleste World Cup Champion 2022: Messi's Face Will Be In Peso Paper Money

JAKARTA - The success of Lionel Messi in the 2022 World Cup still leaves euphoria. Most recently, there was a discourse about making La Pulga's face an icon of Argentina's currency, a peso.

Quoted by the Sport Bible from the Argentine newspaper, El Financiero, there is news that the Argentine government is considering using Messi's picture on their banknotes.

"Argentina are considering putting Lionel Messi on their banknotes," Sport Bible wrote, quoted on Thursday, December 23.

"Perjabat badan pengatur keuangan Argentina ingin menandai kemenangan bersejarah negara mereka di Piala Dunia. Via surat kabar El Financiero," sambung laporan tersebut.

This news is clearly horrendous and raises questions, because generally the icons printed in the currency of a country are important figures such as national heroes of a country or former presidents.

If Messi's portrait is properly used as an icon of Argentina's currency, it could be because the footballer is considered a hero for his country who has been waiting for a 36-year title.

At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Messi was truly the most echoed player in Argentina following the player's vital role in the success of the winning Team.

Pemain Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) itu jadi bintang kemenangan Argentina saat mengalahkan Prancis 4-2 lewat drama adu penalti pada laga final yang digelar di Stadion Lusail, Minggu 18 Desember.

Messi scored a total of seven goals and three assists throughout the four-year tournament. This impressive record made Messi also elected as the 2022 World Cup Player of the Year.

This victory is Argentina's third title in the World Cup. The previous two trophies were won in the 1978 and 1986 editions, respectively.
