PPP Interpreted Luhut's MEANs: KPK Don't OTT Cases Whose Values Are Not 'Wow', While Big Corruption Don't Overcome
JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR from the PPP faction Arsul Sani defended Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who said that the Hand Catch Operation (OTT) damaged Indonesia's image in the international world. According to Arsul, Luhut wants to encourage the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) so that OTT is prioritized for corruption cases that cost big countries.
"Mr. LBP (Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, ed) wants to say, do not waste existing law enforcement human resources on OTT cases whose values are not 'wah'. Meanwhile, many corruption cases have suffered heavy losses to the state, but have not been properly resolved," said Arsul, Thursday, December 22.
According to the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR, Luhut's statement was intended to encourage corruption prosecution to be carried out with an approach from the results of the investigation or case building. That way, said Arsul, the KPK can touch large-value corruption cases.
"I have confidence that it is not that LBP does not agree that corruption will be eradicated, but that taking action against corruption cases should prioritize the results of investigations or case building, then this touches on big cases," said Arsul.
Arsul said that the action was of course against cases where there was a large amount of state losses. Meanwhile, most OTTs, according to him, involve bribes with a nominal loss to the state relatively small.
"Most of the OTT concerns bribery, which on the scale of corruption cases is certainly not a huge amount," he said.
