Indonesia Prepares 16 Tennis To Face Vietnam At The Play Off Davis Cup
JAKARTA - The Central Board of the Indonesian Tennis Association (PP Pelti) summoned 16 male tennis players to attend the Davis Cup training camp which will take place from 26 December 2022 to 14 January 2023.
The activity was in preparation for the Red and White team to face the play off of Group II of the Davis Cup against the host Vietnam on February 4-5, 2023, which is scheduled to take place at Hanaka Paris Ocean Park, Tu Son City, Bac Ninh.
"The invitation has been sent via Pengprov Pelti to each tennis player. We are waiting for a willingness response until the end of this week," said PP Pelti Suharyadi, Head of Development, quoting Antara, Tuesday.
The Indonesian Davis Cup team will be handled by Bonit Wiryawan and Sulistyo Wibowo. Both have the title of "best double team" in the history of this country in the struggle for the symbol of the world men's team tennis supremacy. The Bonit/Sulis pair have a record of losing 6-4.
"We will see the commitment and condition of tennis players when joining, then conducting a ongoing selection," said Suharyadi.
"After that, they will join two ITF Men's World Tennis Tour M15s in Jakarta," he added.
In the deciding round to avoid relegation, Indonesia, which lost to Poland, September 2022, was a leading team.
However, Vietnam, which is promoted from Group III Asia zone Oceania, won 2-0 in the Davis Cup meeting record, including winning when away at the Gelora Tennis Stadium Manahan Solo, 2016.
Since changing its format to World Group II, Indonesia has always had to go through play-off matches, but has always escaped relegation by defeating visitors Kenya in 2021 and Venezuela in 2022.
