Vice President Ma'ruf Amin: Political Parties Should Not Be Used As Vehicles Of Certain Interest
JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin hopes that political parties, both Islamic and non-Islamic based, do not only become vehicles used by certain individuals or groups.
"We hope that political parties will not only be used as mounts or vehicles by certain groups for their own personal interests in order to obtain personal benefits and benefits. But parties should be used as much as possible for the benefit of the people and the nation," said Ma'ruf Amin, when closing the online United Development Party (PPP) IX Congress in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Sunday, December 20.
In the context of democracy, continued the Vice President, political parties must play a role in maintaining the integrity, unity and integrity of Indonesia as a pluralistic nation with various differences and diversity of society.
"As a large and pluralistic nation, difference and diversity are our sources of strength," he said.
Political parties are also expected to be proactive in promoting deliberation and dialogue in building consensus. Deliberation must be used as a standard mechanism in resolving differences of opinion or other national problems, said Ma'ruf Amin.
"I believe that if this role is carried out by all political parties, we can solve many of the problems we face with the best solution. I believe this mechanism is one of the essences of Pancasila democracy," he said.
The PPP Congress IX was centered in Makassar and was attended virtually in nine other big cities, namely Medan, Padang, Palembang, Banten, Bogor, Semarang, Surabaya, Samarinda and Manado.
In the Plenary Meeting of the VII PPP Congress, Suharso Monoarfa, who is the sole candidate for chairman of the PPP, was elected by acclamation to serve as Chairman of the PPP for the 2020-2025 period.
The Minister of National Development Planning (PPN) / Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) previously served as the Acting Officer (Plt) of the Head of PPP replacing Romahurmuziy who stumbled on a bribery case within the Ministry of Religion.
