Only Rp116.67 Billion Has Been Achieved From The Potential Of Rp6.9 Trillion, The Collection Of East Kalimantan Zakat Needs To Be Maximized

SAMARINDA - General Chairperson of the East Kalimantan Zakat Forum (FOZ), Sumadi Buton, said that the province actually has the potential to collect zakat, infaq and alms (ZIS) which is quite large up to around Rp. 6.9 trillion per year.

"The potential is based on the latest study conducted by the Indonesian BAZNAS Study Center which is compared to the current Muslim population in East Kalimantan," he said as reported by Antara from Samarinda, Sunday, December 18.

He said the East Kalimantan FOZ had conducted studies in ten regencies and cities by mapping based on the Muslim population, the number of state civil servants (ASN), houses of worship, and zakat management organizations (OPZ).

Based on the results of the study, it is estimated that the potential for zakat, infaq and alms collection in East Kalimantan Province is IDR 6.9 trillion.

Sumadi explained that in the last year the realization was only around Rp. 116.67 billion or 1.65 percent of the total potential. The realization of the collection came from the zakat association from the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAZ) and also from other amil zakat institutions.

According to him, the realization of zakat collection is actually graphically showing a positive trend when viewed based on five consecutive years. This means that every year there is an increase, it's just that, it's far from the collection target if you look at the amount of potential.

"If the collection is maximized, it can reach IDR 6.9 trillion. From the results of zakat, it can help improve the welfare of the people of East Kalimantan," he said.

He continued, every OPZ has a program in the development of the people, in this case it is included in the mustahik category who are entitled to receive zakat, this can be a financial inclusion in alleviating poverty.

Sumadi Buton continues to mention that the current highest collection of ZIS is Balikpapan City at IDR 63.57 billion, followed by Samarinda City at IDR 25.83 billion and Bontang at IDR 7.77 billion.

He said, to optimize zakat collection, there are two main optimization strategies, namely strengthening amil human resources for zakat collectors and strengthening the OPZ governance and credibility system.

"Strengthening human resources is intended here to strengthen quality, namely work quantity, increasing the competence of zakat understanding, strengthening the character of amil personnel, and also ensuring the welfare of amil personnel in accordance with its proportion," explained Sumadi.
