Rio Ferdinand Leaks France's Weakness, Argentina's National Team Asked To Exploit Kylian Mbappe And Theo Hernandez's Positions
JAKARTA - Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand gave tips to Argentina ahead of the final match against France at the 2022 World Cup. He revealed Les Bleus' weaknesses that Argentina could take advantage of.
Les Bleus and La Albiceleste will meet in the final tournament match at the Lusail Stadium, Doha, Qatar, Sunday, December 18 at 22.00 WIB. Both teams are both looking for their third title in the quadrennial event.
France is a favorite to keep the trophy, but Ferdinand thinks Argentina can win this event for the first time since 1986 if they can exploit their opponent's left wing.
"Their left side is a field area that I think is the opponent's target. You see it, a third of the chances of conceding them come from that side of the field," said Ferdinand, quoted by The Sun.
Ferdinand further explained, this side is the easiest to take advantage of by Lionel Messi and his friends because there are Kylian Mbappe and Theo Hernandez there.
As is known, Mbappe is an attacker who rarely goes down to help the defense. Meanwhile, Theo, unlike his brother Lucas Hernandez, is a player who often goes up to help attack.
"When France fought Denmark, the opponent immediately targeted the side of the field. One of the reasons is that they have Mbappe on the side of the field. So, maybe it makes the defense looser. It clearly puts more pressure on that side," said Ferdinand.
France and Argentina are currently both collecting two titles at the most grand event. The baby is the defending champion after winning in Russia in 2018.
Meanwhile, Argentina has not lifted the World Cup trophy since 1986. They reached another final in 1990 in Italy and 2014 in Brazil, still losing to Germany on those two occasions.
