YOGYAKARTA - The government will provide incentives for electric car buyers in Indonesia. The details of the funds distributed, namely electric cars, received an incentive of IDR 80 million and electric motorcycles of IDR 8 million.

"We will calculate the amount of this subsidy. But approximately for the purchase of electric cars, an incentive of Rp. 80 million will be given, while the purchase of hybrid-based electric cars will be given an incentive of Rp. 40 million," Agus said on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, written on Thursday (15/12/2022).

Agus Gumiwang stated that incentives were channeled to the purchase of cars and electric motors from manufacturers that own factories in Indonesia. With this program, it is hoped that the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia will increase.

Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Kuangan, previously said about the budget for electric motorcycle subsidies which are still in question. There are nominal differences in figures from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry, revealed that the provision of incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles aims to encourage the acceleration of investment in electric manufacturers and cars and motorcycles.

The Minister of Industry said that this incentive is very important in order to grow the electric vehicle ecosystem. According to him, Indonesia can learn from countries that have built an electrification ecosystem with good development.

"For example, countries in Europe, why are they more advanced because the government provides incentives (electric cars), and if we look at China, it also provides incentives and countries that actually become competitors, Thailand also provides incentives," he said.
