Harry Maguire's Glory At The 2022 World Cup With The England National Team Is Expected To Be Contagious At MU
JAKARTA - Manchester United (MU) manager, Erik ten Hag, assessed that Harry Maguire performed well when defending the England national team at the 2022 World Cup. Ten Hag hopes that the performance can be contagious when Maguire returns to defend United.
Maguire's position at the club has recently begun to be eliminated. He mostly sits on the bench.
However, he actually became one of Gareth Southgate's mainstay players in the England national team for the 2022 World Cup with a full performance in five matches.
In his performance with the Three Lions, Maguire even contributed one assist when helping the team advance to the quarter-finals. However, their steps stalled after being defeated by France with a score of 2-1.
"He (Maguire) performed quite well almost all the time for England. He has a period in Manchester (United) where he performed poorly. Then, of course, there are difficulties," said Ten Hag as quoted by Livescore on Tuesday, December 13.
"But when he works hard, he gains that confidence. You see that by way he plays for England. We want him to take it to Manchester United," continued the coach.
When Maguire's performance declined, Ten Hag chose the duo Raphael Varane and Leandro Martinez to guard the heart of the MU defense. However, the coach insists that Maguire still has a chance to return to being the main defender at Old Trafford.
"I hope from him (Maguire), the team knows what they expect from him. If he does that, he will be a great player for us," explained Ten Hag.
"There is a law of play in top football. You have to take the opportunity to get it (the main position)."
"The only thing to do is train well and perform well. He (Maguire) has the game, he has the rhythm. The opportunity is coming," Ten Hag said of Maguire's opportunity.
