Present At The ASEAN-EU Summit In Belgium, Jokowi: We Want Investment From The European Union To Indonesia Increase

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) left for Brussels, Belgium, Tuesday, December 23. The head of state is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-European Summit in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the relationship between the two regions.

"We know that the trade relationship between ASEAN and the European Union in 2021 is US$ 268.9 billion. This is the third largest after RRT and the United States," said President Jokowi at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Tuesday, December 13.

The President said that apart from trade relations, the European Union also played a role in direct foreign investment to ASEAN of US$26 billion in 2021, which is the second largest investment after the People's Republic of China (RRT).

This, said the President, encourages good relations between ASEAN and the European Union to continue to be strengthened and improved. In addition, Indonesia also wants to increase the value of trade with the European Union, and direct investment into the country.

"Of course, our country of Indonesia wants our trade to increase between Indonesia and the EU (EU), and also investment from the European Union to Indonesia also continues to increase", he said, quoted by Antara.

President Jokowi's visit to Belgium was accompanied by First Lady Iriana Jokowi and a limited delegation. The group of heads of state is planned to be in Belgium for less than 24 hours. After that, the group will immediately return to the country.
