Wow! Wayne Rooney Will Be Sparring Partner Tyson Fury Ahead Of The Duel Against Usyk
JAKARTA - Tyson Fury defeated Derek Chisora in a fight dominated by the WBC heavyweight champion easily in early December. After the fight, former footballer Wayne Rooney said the 'Gypsy King' should be made the British Royal Knight for the achievements he has achieved in sports.
In response to Rooney, Fury instead asked the former Manchester United captain to help him train ahead of the duel against Oleksandr Usyk.
"I know Rooney is a huge fan of boxing and he is also from a boxing family," Fury started with TalkSPORT.
"I need someone smaller to make me ready to face Usyk. Wayne, if you listen, come on, son!" he continued.
Not long ago, 'Gypsy King' claimed on ITV that he had received Rooney's response to his application.
"I spoke to Wayne and he told me he was ready for it (helping me train). But he was right-handed, so he had to change to fight with his left hand," he explained.
"We will take Wayne in preparation against Usyk. Am I kidding? No, he is very serious. He will come to the camp for about four weeks to help me."
Rooney has quite a lot of boxing knowledge, as he has been practicing this sport since he was very young, although he is only an amateur in the gym. It's also 1.76m high, compared to 2.06m for 'Gypsy King' or 1.91m for Usyk.
The problem is, how to organize a camp that includes a football coach based in Washington DC, in the middle of the season, for four weeks? The duel against Usyk is planned to be held in March or April next year.
