PMI Provides Clean Life Conduct Education To Earthquake Survivors
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) provides education on the application of clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) to survivors who live in several evacuation points in Cianjur Regency, West Java.
"This education aims to get used to earthquake survivors to always maintain personal and environmental hygiene to prevent the spread of disease," said PMI Health Promotion and Education facilitator Difia Permai Seila, quoted from Antara, Monday 12 December.
According to Seila, PHBS education is considered important because disaster survivors who live in refugee camps are prone to various diseases caused by unclean environmental conditions.
The PHBS education was carried out in several earthquake center locations, one of which was in Salaeurih Village, Benjot Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency. He continued, one of the problems that are often encountered in disaster emergency conditions is the health of survivors.
He hopes that with education like this, survivors can always get used to living a healthier and cleaner life even in an emergency in refugee camps.
"PMI pays special attention to survivors, one of which is by providing education about the implementation of PHBS so that it can be applied in daily activities in evacuation," he added.
Seila said that at the implementation of this activity, volunteers provided education in a simple way using attractive media such as games, storytelling, and simulations so that they were easily absorbed and remembered by participants, the majority of which were vulnerable groups such as children and elderly citizens.
The materials conveyed include the practice of implementing PHBS such as how the refugees can diligently wash their hands, maintain cleanliness by regularly bathing, maintaining environmental cleanliness and and water-efficient discipline.
The PMI WAS already providing clean water facilities and supplies by the WASH PMI Team by intervening in the installation of pipelines and supplies of clean water at several evacuation points.
Not only providing education, PMI also distributed PHBS Kit packages to participating participants, this assistance can be used by survivors to always maintain PHBS even in an all-emergency condition.
