Losing Erji's Opponent, Machfud-Mujiaman, Sues The Results Of The Surabaya Regional Election To The Constitutional Court

SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor candidate pair Machfud Arifin and his deputy Mujiaman (MAJU), will file a lawsuit for the 2020 Surabaya Regional Head Election to the Constitutional Court (MK). This step was taken because he considered that there were many violations still in the Surabaya Regional Head Election which was won by Eri Cahyadi-Armudji (Erji).

"We are taking steps to sue the Constitutional Court, this is not a matter of winning or losing. But for future learning, because there is a tendency for structural and massive violations," Machfud Arifin said during a press conference at the MAJU Winning Post, Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Surabaya, Thursday, 17 December.

The former East Java Regional Police Chief said he would be accountable for the 426,000 votes he received in the Surabaya Pilkada. Therefore, his party took steps to the Constitutional Court, so that the democratic party in the future would be free from practices that violate the rules.

"We certainly thank the people of Surabaya, and we will be held accountable for them. Once again, the problem with the Constitutional Court is not a matter of winning or losing, but we want to leave the legacy about the democratic party there is a tendency for very strong and massive violations," he explained.

But Machfud keeps the violations and frauds that occurred in the Surabaya Pilkada process a secret. He said that democratic contestation should uphold aspects of equality and justice between candidate pairs.

"Without all of this, a democratic Pilkada will only be an illusion in a democratic country," he said.

Machfud is optimistic that the move to the Constitutional Court can lead to an advanced judiciary, and increasingly upholds substantial justice in every case.

"God willing, next Monday we will file a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court," Machfud said.
