KPU Asked To Give Requirements For Regional Head Candidates To Become A 3-Year Political Party Cadre To Prevent Dynastic Politics

JAKARTA - Member of the Board of Trustees of Perludem, Titi Anggaraini, asked the General Election Commission (KPU) to impose certain requirements for regional head candidate pairs (cakada) through political parties.

According to Titi, the KPU can make a requirement that a regional head candidate through the political party path must become a party cadre for at least three years before submitting his candidacy in the next regional election.

"We are pushing for the requirements for candidates from parties. We recommend that one of the cadres who are promoted by a party or a coalition of parties has a minimum requirement of three years as a cadre of a political party," said Titi in a webinar discussion, Thursday, December 17.

This encouragement, said Titi, was due to the existence of kinship or dynastic politics in the 2020 Pilkada in a number of regions. The problem is that the akada is a cadre who was recruited by the party just before the election.

As a result, the appointment of a regional head who is related to party officials or officials close to the party makes the party regeneration process exclusive and weakens the principles of democracy.

"Kinship politics limits access to election inclusiveness for party cadres. This is because it limits access and inclusiveness of elections. In fact, the election must be accessible, especially for all party cadres," said Titi.

In the Solo City Election, one of the candidates for regional head was Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Then, in the Medan Pilkada, the candidate was Bobby Nasution. The two candidates were nominated by PDI Perjuangan.
