Gary Lineker's Slip, Harry Kane Is Now Pursuing Wayne Rooney To Become England's Most Goalscorer

JAKARTA - Harry Kane surpassed Gary Lineker's achievements in England's all-time leading goalscorer in a major tournament thanks to one goal against Senegal. The Tottenham Hotspur striker scored England's second goal in a 3-0 win at Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday, December 4 evening.

This is Kane's first goal of the tournament this year or his seventh goal in the World Cup from 10 appearances. Kane previously claimed the Golden Boot award in Russia four years ago after being the top scorer with six goals.

In addition, Kane also scored four goals for England on their way to the European Cup final 2020 last year. Thus, he has now scored a total of 11 goals in the big competition or one goal ahead of Lineker.

An additional goal left the 29-year-old now collecting 52 goals for the England national team. He is one goal behind to match Wayne Rooney's record (53 goals) as England's all-time top scorer.

Kane scored 52 goals in 79 appearances with the Three Lions. He now has the opportunity to match or pass Rooney as England reaches the quarter-finals in Qatar.

England will meet defending champions France to win a semifinal ticket on Sunday, December 11. The sides of the men advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Poland 3-1.

Four years ago while in Russia, England managed to qualify for the semifinals, but failed to reach the final after losing to Croatia which later became runner-up to this four-year edition of the tournament.
