In 2.5 Years, 81,000 Illegal Migrant Workers Were Returned: Most Of The Middle East And Malaysia

INDRAMAYU - Head of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani asked all citizens who will become migrant workers to be aware of illegal recruitment and departures.

"Don't let you want to and become a victim of the placement of illegal migrant workers," said Benny, reported by Antara while attending the International Migrant Workers' Day event in Indramayu, Sunday, December 4.

Benny said from existing data for 2.5 years there were approximately 81 thousand illegal migrant workers who were repatriated, and most of them were from Middle Eastern countries, as well as Malaysia.

According to him, of this number 3,148 prospective migrant workers were sick, disabled, depressed, memory loss and others, while 1,495 people died.

With these many cases, it is hoped that the public will be more careful when leaving for work abroad, and not become victims of illegal departures because they can endanger themselves.

For this reason, Benny asked the community of officers, both from RT, RW, villages, to jointly supervise their citizens who will leave to become migrant workers.

Benny added that there are still many legal workforce placements in Indonesia, for that his party asks prospective migrant workers to go through legal channels.

"We recorded that the highest number of illegal migrant worker placements was experienced by women with a percentage of 90 percent. For this reason, when they were about to leave, they came to the local Manpower Office, or through BP2MI," he said.
