Residents Of NTT Please Be Alert, BMKG Predictions Of Very High Rainfall

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to residents to be aware of rainfall in some areas of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) which have very high categories.

"Rainfall in a small part of the area spread across several districts in NTT has a very high category or more than 300 millimeters/basis, so it is necessary to be aware of the potential threat of hydrometeorological disasters," said Head of Class II Kupang Climatology Station BMKG Rahmatulloh Adji quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, December 3.

He said this was related to the results of the analysis of rainfall and areas experiencing very high rainfall in the NTT region. Rahmattulloh said the analysis of the rainfall of the Third Dasarian in November 2022 showed that generally the NTT region experienced intermediate rainfall (50-150 millimeters/dasarian).

However, some areas in NTT experience very high rainfall in the category spread across Flores Island, namely a small part of East Manggarai Regency, Ngada, Ende.

In addition, a small part of Sabu Raijua on Sabu Island and a small part of Kupang, North Central Timor, and Malacca regencies on Timor Island. He appealed to the people in these areas to increase early vigilance against potential hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, flash floods, and landslides.

People living in hill areas or steeper, he said, must be more vigilant by taking the necessary disaster mitigation steps and being ready to evacuate themselves when heavy rains occur with long durations or more than an hour.

"Disaster mitigation measures must be well prepared to minimize the impact of disasters, especially the safety of the community," he said.
