French President Emmanuel Macron Dikemuki Elon Musk, Twitter Dalam Masalan Besar
JAKARTA Elon Musk's policy to loosen content moderation on Twitter is a "big problem". This was revealed by French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday December 1 in an interview on television show Good Morning America.
Musk's social media platform, earlier this week, decided to cancel a policy aimed at overcoming misinformation related to COVID-19, which increases the risk of fake news as infections increase in China and elsewhere.
Since buying Twitter last October, the world's richest man has also reactivated several previously suspended accounts. This includes the account of former US President Donald Trump. Last week, Musk also said the platform would provide "public amnesty" for several suspended accounts.
"Freedom of speech and democracy is based on respect and public order. You can demonstrate, you can have free speech, you can write what you want, but there are responsibilities and limits," Macron said in the interview. He also added that he supports more regulations.
The comments came after reports that the European Union had threatened to ban Twitter unless Musk complied with strict rules on content moderation. Twitter and Musk did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters about the threat.
Musk said last month that Twitter was experiencing a "scale drop in revenue" as advertisers stopped spending. He blamed civil rights groups who pressured top advertisers of the platform to take action if he didn't protect content moderation.
