MUI: All Economic Cooperation With Israel Must Be Rejected
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim reminded the Indonesian government to remain consistent in not normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel.
"All efforts to cooperate, including cooperation in the economic sector with Israel, must be rejected," Sudarnoto told reporters in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, December 15.
He said Israel was a country that colonized the Homeland and the Palestinian people for a long time. Indonesia must remain consistent and consistent with its identity as a nation that opposes colonialism.
"We fully believe that occupation is incompatible with humanity and justice," he said.
MUI, he said, gave the highest appreciation to the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs in responding to the issue of normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been firm, clear and consistent in carrying out Indonesia's foreign policy which has been anti-colonial since the beginning," he said.
Sudarnoto said that if Israel's occupation of Palestine is allowed, brotherhood and world peace will not be achieved.
The world community must know that the beliefs and firm views of the Indonesian people regarding the rejection of any imperialism have become one of the main principles of the foreign policy of the Republic of Indonesia since independence.
"MUI asks the government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Ministers to continue to fight on the world stage for the independence of the Palestinian people. MUI will always provide full support for the efforts to fight Israeli imperialism," he said.
