FPI Lawyer: Rizieq Shihab Does Not Want To Apply For Suspension Of Detention

JAKARTA - Head of Legal Aid for the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Sugito Atmo Prawiro said that his party could not confirm whether Rizieq Shihab would submit a request for suspension of detention. Rizieq, the high priest of FPI, is said to have not wanted to apply for a suspension of detention.

"For now, we have not proposed a suspension of detention for now," Sugito told reporters, Tuesday, December 15.

However, according to Sugito, Rizieq did not explain the reason he did not want to apply for a suspension of detention in the crowd case in Petamburan.

"All decisions related to him must be communicated to him first and he said, 'Ah, let's do the postponement first'," said Sugito.

Apart from proposing a suspension of detention, Sugito said he was very grateful to those who were willing to guarantee Rizieq Shihab. But it was emphasized again that the decision to request a suspension of detention was submitted directly to Rizieq Shihab.

"But what is clear is that we are very grateful to the ulama leaders and several people who are ready to become guarantor," he said.

Rizieq Shihab was named a suspect in the alleged crowd case in Petamburan that led to a violation of health protocols, on Thursday, December 10. Not only Rizieq, in that case, the police also named five other suspects.

In this case, Rizieq was charged with Articles 160 of the Criminal Code and 216 of the Criminal Code. Meanwhile, the other suspect was charged with Article 93 of Law Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine.

With the alleged article, Rizieq was officially detained for the next 20 days starting December 12. Rizieq is currently in a drug detention cell at Polda Metro Jaya.
