Mahfud MD: If The State Is Unable To Enforce Justice, Just Wait For The Destruction
JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that a country could be destroyed if the government in power behaved unfairly towards one particular group or party. This, he said, has been proven by various countries in the past.
"I say if the state is unable to uphold justice, just waiting for its destruction. The destruction of the history of the previous nations, yes, because the country is unfair," said Mahfud when he was a speaker in a webinar held by LIPI with the theme of Creating Harmony in Diversity: Problems and Solutions. online, Tuesday, December 15.
The state, he continued, must be able to guarantee the upholding of law and justice. Because, if there is an injustice in differences, discrimination will be felt in which the state seems to side with those who are stronger while the weak or poor do not feel that they get attention.
Thus, it is imperative for any country at present or in the future to act fairly in order to maintain harmony in society.
"Whoever, the current, past, and future governments have the same demands, namely to uphold justice if the integrity of this nation and all the harmony it builds is to be maintained," he said.
"If not, then just waiting for time. Just waiting for time," added the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).
Furthermore, Mahfud did not deny that many parties are currently insinuating the problem of injustice as if it were being carried out by the government. But he did not want to answer further about this satire.
"People quip, 'you know, Pak Mahfud says that now the state is unfair'. Now that applies to anyone, yes, it applies to anyone, if it's not fair, just wait, right," he said.
"What is important, we start how to build upholding law and justice," he concluded.
