Three Poisoned Fish Catchers In Morowali Central Sulawesi Arrested By KKP In Line With Jokowi's Vision

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has arrested three perpetrators of destructive fishing by using poison in the waters of Morowali, Central Sulawesi.

"The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has again thwarted destructive fishing," said the Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Monitoring (PSDKP) of the KKP TB Haeru Rahayu in a press release in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday, December 15.

According to him, the arrest of the three perpetrators was also a result of cooperation with the community.

He revealed that the action against destructive fishing was part of the efforts of his staff to protect the sea for the future of the nation.

This, he continued, is in line with the vision of the government under the command of President Joko Widodo.

"We will continue to protect our seas, including from destructive fishing," said the KKP's Director General of PSDKP.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Marine Resources Monitoring, Matheus Eko Rudianto said that the arrests were made at the coordinate point 3 ° 27 '40 "LS - 122 ° 55'31" East Longitude on Sunday at around 11.39 WITA.

It was stated that the location was Kokoila waters which became the Morowali conservation area. These three actors also share roles in carrying out the action.

"So out of the three we caught, 2 were diving and 1 was on the boat," said Eko.

Eko added that from this disclosure, the Directorate General of PSDKP confiscated a number of evidence from the three perpetrators.

The evidence includes 14 packs of potassium, a 6.5 PK compressor machine, compressor tubes, 2 hose rolls, 3 blowers / 3 airators, and others.

"We secure the perpetrators and our evidence at the Bitung PSDKP Base for further processing," he said.

For information, during October 2019 to date, the Directorate General of PSDKP has arrested 96 perpetrators of destructive fishing.

In addition to prosecution, PSDKP continues to intensify socialization and education on the impact of various destructive fishing actions to the community in order to maintain the sustainability of Indonesia's marine and fishery resources.
