Amazon Closes Online Learning Services In India, Loss After The Pandemic After Completion
JAKARTA - Amazon.com Inc stated on Thursday 24 November that it will shut down online learning platforms for high school students in India less than two years after its launch. Unfortunately they didn't mention the reason for the closure.
The Amazon Academy platform, launched early last year amid a virtual learning boom during the COVID-19 pandemic, which offers training for competitive exams including the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which allows students to enter the best engineering colleges across India.
Based on the assessment, the e-commerce giant said in a statement that it had made the decision to halt the Amazon Academy "in stages to take care of current customers".
The cessation comes at a time when several edtech companies are staggered under school pressure and training centers reopened across India following the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last month, industry leader Byju's said he would lay off 2,500 employees as he hoped to suppress spending in order to generate profits.
Other players in the industry, Unacademy, Toppr, WhiteHat Jr, and Vedantu have also announced layoffs earlier this year, according to local media reports.
