PAPUA - The Opsnal Team of the West Papua Police's Narcotics Research Directorate arrested a young man with the initials DD (24) who was suspected of carrying 6.3 kilograms of marijuana from the top of KM Sinabung on the Jayapura Papua cruise route to Manokwari.The Director of Drug Investigation at the West Papua Police, Kombes Indra Napitupulu, confirmed the arrest of the perpetrator along with evidence of marijuana weighing 6.3 kilograms from above KM Sinabung."The arrest above KM Sinabung, precisely on the three-room deck of 3053 last Friday at around 23.00 WIT or two hours before the ship docked at Manokwari Port with information assistance from the public," said Indra during a press conference in Manokwari, Antara, Wednesday, November 23.After the arrest, the perpetrator was immediately detained and named a suspect after the fulfillment of two pieces of evidence in the investigation. The results of the urine test, suspect DD tested positive as a marijuana-type drug user."The case is still being developed because the purpose of bringing in 6.3 kilograms of marijuana is to meet the buyer's request in Manokwari at a selling price of Rp. 100,000 per gram," said Indra.He said that the confiscation of 6.3 kilograms of marijuana was one of the biggest arrests in 2022 at the West Papua Police Narcotics Investigation Directorate."If it is converted into retail price per gram of Rp. 100,000, the value of the money generated from the sale of this illegal item is estimated at Rp. 639,200,000," said Indra.Indra is grateful for the participation of the community who continue to assist the police in efforts to prevent and eradicate drug trafficking in the West Papua region."At least 24 thousand people in Manokwari and its surroundings were rescued from the threat of drug harm by confiscation of marijuana because sales per package of marijuana in the West Papua region have targeted all age and profession groups," he said.The article applied to the suspect DD is Article 114 Paragraph 2 Subsidiary Article 111 Paragraph 2, Subsidiary Article 127 Paragraph 1 letter (a) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 Year 2009 concerning Narcotics with a minimum penalty of 6 years a maximum of 20 years in prison for life or a minimum fine of Rp. 10 billion.
