Beware Of Transmission Of Suicide Ideas From The Nadia Case
JAKARTA - The suicide incident of Nadia, a state junior high school student in East Jakarta, has the potential to have a psychological effect that encourages imitation of suicidal intentions by other students, both in the same school as the victim and in other schools.
The Commissioner for Education, Retno Listyarti, revealed the tendency for the transmission of psychological ideas to be based on the results of the supervision by KPAI and the Integrated Service Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2TP2A) to the school.
Based on the results of data collection and information from school students, Nadia's suicide attempt was carried out during school hours, but there were still dozens of students participating in extracurricular activities.
Based on the assessment, there were 72 students who were subjected to a psychological examination because they saw Nadia's condition, who was lying after jumping from the fourth floor of the school. Of the 72 students, there are 29 children who need follow-up for psychological therapy by P2TP2A.
"In fact, there was another student who had a problem that led to the intention of committing suicide as a result of this case," said Retno at the KPAI office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 30.
In fact, said Retno, the suicide case in Nadia had the potential to transmit the imitation of suicide ideas to other school students. "There is already information received by KPAI that there have been attempts at suicide attempts at other schools in the East Jakarta area as well," said Retno.
The potential for the transmission of suicidal ideas, continued Retno, must be watched seriously. This could not be solved just by presenting P2TP2A to help with the psychological recovery of the child. It takes the role of the DKI Jakarta Education Office in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control Office (PPAPP).
KPAI encourages related agencies to conduct training for teachers to be sensitive and know how to detect students who are afflicted with problems and could potentially commit suicide.
"Later, every teacher at least has sensitivity and recognizes signs of children who are afflicted with problems and who have suicidal ideas. With a note, training cannot be done with learning methods and curriculum," he said.
Furthermore, KPAI asked the Education Office to have an SOP that every school must implement as a response if there are students or other schools who try to commit suicide attempts or similar cases.
This is because, reflecting on Nadia's case, the school stated that it only reported that Nadia had jumped to the East Jakarta Education Sub-dept. In stages. The school did not report it to the police because at that time SN's ananda had not died and was taken to the hospital.
"KPAI encourages the Education Office to have a reporting SOP when a student falls from the school building, let the police confirm what happened, an accident or suicide," Retno concluded.
