Jokowi: The Attorney General's Office Must Be Clean And Become Another Role Model For Law Enforcement

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office to clean from fraudulent practices and become a role model for other law enforcers. He even repeated his statement several times when he opened the Prosecutor's Working Meeting which was held online.

"The prosecutor's office must be clean. The prosecutor's office must be clean, the prosecutor must be able to become a role model for law enforcers who are professional and with integrity," Jokowi said when opening the Prosecutor Meeting which was broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account, Monday, December 14.

The Adhiyaksa Corps, he continued, needed to strengthen internal supervision and enforcement. The reason is because the prosecutor's role is the face of government and the face of legal certainty in the country.

In addition, Jokowi also assessed that the prosecutor's office also has an important role in law enforcement, from prevention to eradicating corruption.

"Without a clean and trusted prosecutor's office, an important foundation for national development will also be fragile," he stressed.

Furthermore, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta has asked for a number of improvements within the prosecutor's office from upstream to downstream to be made. Not only that, he also mentioned that the relationship between the AGO and other law enforcement officials needs to be made effective.

Next, Jokowi also asked the AGO to continue to strive for an efficient and transparent way of working to be implemented immediately to close the gaps in corruption.

"Manual methods are slow, manual methods that are prone to corruption must be abandoned," he said.

"At the same time, internal supervision must be made effective so that the prosecutors' human resources act professionally. Case handling must be directed at correcting the wrongdoing of the perpetrator to correct the perpetrator and to recover the crime victim," he concluded.
