He did not specify the reasons for his departure and declined to say how many people Twitter employed in France before or after the takeover of the company by Musk last month.

Employment laws in France actually prevent companies from firing permanent employees overnight. French-based companies should officially notify staff that they intend to lay off them before, usually by letter with receipts.

They must also respect certain notification periods, depending on the nature of the dismissal and seniority of staff.

He recently told employees to consider whether they want to keep "working for hours with high intensity" or pick up a three-month severance package.
