Two Different Narratives About The Shooting Of FPI Laskar, Jokowi: Use Legal Procedures

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has responded to two different narratives regarding the chronology of the shooting of six special guard Rizieq Shihab's guard on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

Polda Metro Jaya said the shootings were carried out as self-defense because the FPI troops attacked the security forces with firearms. However, FPI denied and emphasized that their ranks were not equipped with any weapons.

Jokowi said, if there are two different narratives that develop, then the public is asked to follow the ongoing legal procedures.

"If there are differences of opinion on the law enforcement process, I ask to use legal mechanisms. Follow legal procedures, follow the process and respect court decisions," Jokowi said at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Sunday, December 13.

Jokowi continued, if law enforcement by the authorities does not find common ground, then the investigation of the case can be submitted to an independent institution such as the National Commission on Human Rights.

"If it is necessary to involve independent institutions, we have the National Human Rights Commission where the public can submit their complaints," he said.

Currently, Konas HAM has formed an investigation team related to the shooting incident of six special laskar guards Rizieq Shihab which took place at the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

In this investigation, Komnas HAM will ask for information from the President Director of PT Jasa Marga, Subakti Syukur and the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Inspector General Fadil Imran. The summons are scheduled for Monday, December 14.

The Komnas HAM investigation team has also made a request to a number of parties involved in this case. Among them are FPI, witnesses, the families of the six laskar victims who died, and the community.

It was reported earlier that the police attack by Rizieq Shihab's laskar took place at around 00.30 WIB Monday, December 7 in the morning.

Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran said that the police received news that the mass of supporters of Rizieq Shihab would be deployed in connection with the investigation called Inspector General Fadil circulating in many WhatsApp groups.

The Regional Police conducted an investigation into the truth of the information and followed the vehicle Rizieq was in. On the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, Fadil said the officers' vehicles were intercepted and then attacked using firearms and sharp weapons.

"Members who were threatened with their safety because they were attacked, then took a firm measure of measure, so that the group suspected of being MRS followers, totaling 10, died as many as 6 people," said Fadil.

However, this was denied by the FPI spokesman, Munarman. Munarman emphasized that Rizieq had traveled to attend recitation at the residence of his immediate family.

"The news is slander. Habib Rizieq is heading outside Jakarta to attend the nuclear family recitation. I do not want to mention where it is. This is only a nuclear family recitation, it does not involve any parties," said Munarman.

Munarman also denied that Rizieq's followers had firearms. Therefore, Munarman emphasized that no shootout was carried out by the police and members of the laskar.
