Viral High School Student Suspension Case In Bandung, Mayor: Hopefully There Will Be A Deterrent Effect
BANDUNG - The case of bullying befell a student of Baiturrahman Junior High School Bandung, West Java. This case has also gone viral on social media and has been investigated by the police.
The victim's head was kicked several times by his classmate until he fainted. He was also rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Bandung Mayor Yana Mulyana admitted that she was concerned about this bullying case. "Of course I am very concerned about the bullying that occurred at one of the Bandung City Junior High Schools," Yana said as quoted by Antara, Saturday, November 19.
"Alhamdulillah, the Bandung City Education Office has responded and taken several actions," he continued.
Yana then said that the supervisor of the coach from the Education Office (Disdik) had been ordered to go to the location to find out and provide guidance to schools. "We also assigned a pandawa team through the Roots program. The Roots program is a program from the Ministry of Education and Culture regarding anti-bullying," said Yana.
He also hopes that this incident can have a deterrent effect on the perpetrators of bullying. However, according to him, the case mediation process is still ongoing and accompanied by the Bandung City Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Service. "Hopefully there will be good things that can be produced and there will be a deterrent effect. So that there will no longer be bullying of anyone against our children," said Yana.
The alleged bullying took place on Thursday, November 17, it was recorded in a 21-second video. The video was then spread on social media that drew criticism from netizens. In the video, the victim was seen sitting in his classroom chair and forced to wear a helmet while being surrounded by his classmates. Then one of the perpetrators kicked the victim's head several times who was wearing a helmet until the victim fell to the floor.
