Fulfilling The DPR's Call, Erick Thohir Seeks The Best Solution To Resolve The Jiwasraya Case

JAKARTA - The Jiwasraya Commission VI working committee (Panja) summoned BUMN Minister Erick Thohir to investigate the problem of PT Asuransi Jiwasraya's policy default. This meeting took place closed.

Erick Thohir said that his party would try to find the best solution to solve the state-owned insurance company's default problem.

"From the line ministries, we will try to start completing the initial payment at the end of March. If possible, we will do it faster," he said, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 29.

The Jiwasraya problem, Erick acknowledged, was not a light problem, because it was a long problem. Erick also admitted that Jiwasraya's previous management did not manage investments with a prudent principle.

"This is our concern so that the investment process must be tightened. Jiwasraya's management offers products with higher interest rates than the market. That's why it needs safety rather than investment, not only chasing interest but there must be certainty," he said.

Erick explained, currently Jiwasraya's condition is very sick and has difficulty paying policy claims of Rp. 16 trillion. Jiwasraya also experienced a lack of solvency (ability to pay obligations) worth IDR 28 trillion.

"We are coordinating with the Ministry of Finance, to find the best solution. We also want a search in March. We expect professional and transparent work, one of which is the formation of an insurance holding. This is expected to improve insurance governance, especially related to investment, compliance and risk management functions. "he said.

Not only that, Erick admitted, he also always coordinates with the Attorney General's Office regarding asset recovery which can help Jiwasraya pay policyholders.

Erick explained that the assets of the suspect in the Jiwasraya default case have been confiscated by the Attorney General. One of them is in the form of land certificates.

"Nearly 1,400 certificates. We ask for an outline of how many business to business needs to be completed," he explained.

This asset recovery, said Erick, could not be directly handed over to his party to assist Jiwasraya's default case. This is because asset recovery is prioritized to enter the country first.

"But hopefully this asset recovery will become a new method in solving corruption cases going forward," he said.

In the working committee meeting which took place closed, Erick Thohir explained in more detail the exploration of the solutions that must be taken. Because, according to him, the Ministry of BUMN cannot run alone, because it must be synergized with the Ministry of Finance and OJK.
