NBA Could Be The Pioneer Of The COVID-19 Vaccine Consumer Sports Competition
JAKARTA - The NBA could become a pioneer in sports competitions that become consumers of the COVID-19 vaccine, following the preparation of a plan initiated by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
Silver and his staff are reportedly lobbying the entire team, players and agents to draft a policy on the use of the COVID-19 vaccine, ESPN reported on Friday, December 11.
This was carried out by the ranks of NBA operators following the emergence of several COVID-19 vaccines, which are currently entering the final stages of approval for mass use.
According to the ESPN report, the NBA is currently working on enriching the players and team staff regarding the existing vaccine options and their side effects as well as recommendations for players to participate in the program.
The reason is, it is suspected that a number of players have expressed their doubts regarding the existing vaccines to their respective agents and team doctors.
On the other hand, the NBA also needs to determine a timeline for the injection of the COVID-19 vaccine to players and staff, considering that the vaccine is of course prioritized for vulnerable groups such as health workers.
The new NBA season, which is planned not to adopt a bubble system, does open up the possibility of the spread of COVID-19 among players and staff.
Especially in the last few weeks reports of positive case finding of COVID-19 among NBA players have continued to increase.
NBA 2020/21 is scheduled to start rolling on December 22.
