President Jokowi Received The Global Citizen Award
JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo received the Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council, which was presented on the sidelines of the Global Food Security Forum, in Nusa Dua, Bali, Sunday night.
"First, I'd like to express my gratitude and great honor for the awarding of this Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council," said President Jokowi in his remarks in Bali, Sunday.
He said he never thought about getting the honorable award.
According to him, what he has been doing so far is only working as well as possible with full responsibility for the sake of human values.
"As a pluralistic country consisting of 17,000 islands, 1,340 ethnic groups and 652 local languages that we have, Indonesia teaches the values of tolerance, the values of peace, unity and cooperation," said the Head of State as reported by Antara.
He conveyed that as a leader who likes to go to villages, villages and traditional markets, he knows that small people teach simplicity and vulnerability to challenges.
He stressed that the biggest difficulties are always felt by those under, by poor families, and by low-income countries.
"Therefore, I always try hard to fight for the interests of the small people and also voice the interests of low-income countries in various forums. The world cannot be built with rivalry and greed but must be built with tolerance and mutual respect for each other which is mutually beneficial," he explained.
He said Indonesia's Presidency at the G20 this year and Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN had been handed over, based on these spirits.
Once again, thank you for the Global Citizen Award to me. This will further motivate me and the Indonesian government to carry out big responsibilities and be part of the world's solution. Thank you," said President Jokowi.
