India Becomes The Country With The Most Access To Netflix In 2020
JAKARTA - Closing 2020, the Netflix streaming service will announce statistics on the activity of subscribers through Netflix.
Launching Variety, Friday, December 11, India became the country that watched the most Netflix in 2020. According to Monika Shergill, VP of Content for Netflix India, 80 percent of customers in India watch movies on Netflix every week.
Raat Akeli Hai became the most watched film in India. The film tells the story of a married landlord who is murdered. The investigation of a policeman is complicated by the victim's family who has another secret.
After Raat Akeli Hai, the next ranking was followed by Malang, Ludo, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Kannum Kannum, Kappela, and Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya.
Judging by the first 10 rankings, Indian people enjoy locally produced content. By entering the largest streaming service in the world, India showcases their capabilities in presenting varied stories.
Interest in Documentary FilmsDocumentary is always associated with spectacle that is serious and difficult for viewers to like. However, Netflix, which has new content every month, is considered successful in bringing documentaries into shows that are filled but still interesting to enjoy.
BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky became the most watched documentary in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand. Meanwhile, the music documentary Arashi's Diary is popular in Japan and American Murder: The Family Next Door is popular in the Philippines.
Then, there is Bad Boy Billionaires: India which has caught the attention of the Indian public as well as The Social Dilemma which is the most watched in Australia. Not only thrillers, documentaries on social issues and music also dominate the documentary genre on Netflix.
Public enthusiasm for Korean dramas is still high along with the large amount of drama content that Netflix has purchased. The four popular dramas are Kingdom, The King: Eternal Monarch, and It's Okay to Not Be Okay.
Interestingly, Drakor What's Wrong with Secretary Kim became the most popular in Japan even though it was released in 2018. In Indonesia, the new Start-Up drama ended up leading the way in popularity.
Anime Becomes Netflix's New FocusAnime is also a new category on which Netflix is focused. The proof is, the number of viewers has doubled in Asia this year. Anime Japan Sinks 2020 and Pokemon are the most watched in parts of Asia.
Meanwhile, countries such as Thailand and the Philippines chose the anime film Howl's Moving Castle and Weathering With You. Public enthusiasm for Demon Slayer was also shown by the crowd of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Recognizing the great interest, in October, Netflix announced a partnership with four major animation studios to produce various quality series. They are also preparing anime content that can be watched starting in 2021.
