Home Affairs Minister Tito Asks Regional Heads To Prepare Simultaneous Pilkades 2020

JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian asked the Regional Head to prepare for the 2020 simultaneous village head election (Pilkades).

"Please colleagues, regents, mayors, according to the law to become the central point for implementing this pilkades, really prepare all the steps, including planning, preparation, materials, budget, regulations, and others," said Tito in a regional central coordination meeting in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Thursday, December 10.

Tito also asked the regent mayor to conduct outreach, supervise the implementation of the Pilkades and evaluate each stage.

"Do socialization and coordination, then supervise the implementation, execution and simultaneously carry out monitoring and evaluation, including the supervisory ranks who do not hesitate to warn, act according to the existing regulations," he said.

Tito explained that the role of regional heads is central in implementing the Pilkades. The reason is that the pilkades does not have an election management body such as the KPU Bawaslu, so it will prioritize the role of the regent mayor.

"If there is a special regime for the implementation of pilkada elections, where there is a KPU organizing agency, Bawaslu supervisors, and so on, then for the pilkades, the main role is the regional and city heads as the organizer who will form the committee," he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Director General Pemdes Kemendagri Yusharto said, the election of village heads to replace village heads who have ended their term of office, pass away, request themselves or be dismissed in accordance with Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning Village Government and PP Number 73 of 2014.

"As an activity, in 2020 as many as 4,355 village heads will be elected, which are spread across 75 districts and cities," he said.

Of these, he said, elections have been held in 16 city districts or for 1,236 village heads. The election took place before the pandemic and before the issuance of a letter from the Minister of Home Affairs regarding the postponement of simultaneous regional head elections and changes between 2020.

"Furthermore, 1,274 villages in 23 districts and cities are planned to be implemented after the 2020 simultaneous regional elections," said Yusharto.
