Russian Catcalling Taxi Driver, Minister Sandiaga: Unreachable, Behavior Of Our Nation Is Serving

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Unokocewa with a catcalling action carried out by taxi drivers against women foreign nationals (foreigners) from Russia.

Sandiaga Uno said the action did not reflect the behavior of the Indonesian nation and was unacceptable.

"We have said from the start that quality tourism, namely, which is friendly, safe and fun, we must be firm with tourism and creative economy actors (parekraf) by providing guidance that catcalling is unacceptable and unacceptable," Sandi said in Sarinah, Jakarta, Thursday (10/9/2022).

"This is not the behavior of our nation. The behavior of our nation is always to serve. We are known as a country whose people always provide safe, friendly, and comfortable services," he continued.

Sandiaga then asked foreign tourists if they experience catcalling while traveling in Indonesia, don't be afraid to report it to their ministry through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy social media so that it can be followed up immediately.

So it is hoped that Indonesia's reputation will not make Indonesia's reputation worse in the eyes of the tourists.

"Report to us through social media, we will immediately follow up. We have appointed expert staff in the field of critical management because this is a crisis that if it is not disputed properly will result in a bad reputation for tourism in Indonesia," he concluded.

Blue bird Group fired the driver of the catcalling perpetrator against a female citizen (WN) of Russia with the initials GV. The decision is one of the company's firm stances.

"As of November 8, 2022, we have carried out an internal investigation, and have fairly given warnings and strict sanctions in the form of breaking partners against unscrupulous drivers," wrote Blue Bird's official statement seen by VOI, Thursday, November 10.

Blue Bird also apologized to the Russian citizen or victim. The reason is, the actions of unscrupulous drivers have resulted in inconvenience to the victims.

"We apologize for the inconvenience caused, both for a pedestrian who gets unpleasant treatment," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim claimed to have forgiven the perpetrator for what he had done. In fact, he also asked the taxi bike not to stop the driver.

Catcalling itself is a form of sexual harassment in the form of verbal violence or psychological violence.
