Reza Rahadian And Garin Nugroho Talk About The Dynamics Of Indonesian Film
JAKARTA - Garin Nugroho and Reza Rahadian learned a lot from the 2022 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) judging process. Both also admitted that they felt a big change from Indonesian cinema.
"The most unique thing is that most popular films do not meet quality elements. The previous era was a nomination (FFI) which was always dominated by class 1 directors in grade 2," said Garin Nugroho at the FFI press conference at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Jakarta on Friday, November 11.
They feel that many films are now more enjoyable by various groups. Previously there were several films whose segmentation was still limited and not very popular.
"If you look at the work of the film KKN (in Penari Village) etc. it is nominated as a discussion material. Then the lifestyle of the audience hit the boundary. Between the arts of entertainment achievement and technology that can be seen in the current nominations. Indonesian films are increasingly looking at diversity, "said Garin Nugroho again.
In addition, the development of over the top (OTT) in Indonesia also makes the audience more open to films and stories that are presented even though they are not connected to them.
The great weight of the OTT that used to be can only be watched if there was a festival abroad. The new ecosystem gave birth to a new appreciator. Interestingly, there is a middle class lifestyle, especially a productive age that is familiar with new media," said Garin.
Reza Rahadian also reflected on his two years as chairman of the FFI. According to him, he learned many lessons in the process.
"When asked about the impact, we learn to film more characters in the film world. For me there are many valuable lessons while serving as committee chairman and giving a lot of criticism input," explained Reza Rahadian.
"A very meaningful process," he continued.
