Chairul Tanjung The Richest Person Number 9 Forbes Version, His Wealth Reaches Rp. 55 Trillion

JAKARTA - The Chairul Tanjung (CT) conglomerate, which has various businesses ranging from media and entertainment, natural resources, retail, to banking, is only able to be in the ninth position of the richest people in Indonesia in 2020.

Quoted from Forbes official Instagram, Thursday, December 10, the position of CT was under Kalbe Farma founder Boenjamin Setiawan. It was recorded there that CT's assets reached US $ 3.9 billion or equivalent to Rp.55 trillion.

In 2019, Chairul Tanjung also occupied the ninth position as the richest person according to Forbes Indonesia. At that time, his wealth reached 3.6 billion dollars or around Rp.50.6 trillion.

Meanwhile, the first position of the richest people in Indonesia 2020 is the Hartono brothers. Budi and Michael Hartono are still the richest people in Indonesia. They have occupied the top position for 12 consecutive years.

Chairul Tanjung is known as the owner of a conglomerate called CT Corp. Its businesses span from finance (Mega Corp), media, retail, lifestyle & entertainment (Trans Corp), and natural resources (CT Global Resources).

Banking

Chairul Tanjung and family (CT Corpora) through PT Mega Corpora are the controlling shareholder of PT Bank Mega Tbk. Share ownership is 58 percent, while the rest is public shares. Bank Mega has total assets of IDR 99.24 trillion as of June 30, 2020, while its profits have grown 32.60 percent year on year (yoy) to IDR 1.18 trillion.

In the sharia line, there is PT Bank Mega Syariah with a share ownership of 99.99 percent. Total assets of Bank Mega Syariah reached IDR 8 trillion in 2019, while its net profit grew 5.5 percent yoy to IDR 49.15 billion.

CT also entered BPD Sulutgo and BPD Central Sulawesi by holding share ownership of 24.90 percent each. Bank Sulutgo has total assets of IDR 17.18 trillion as of September 2020, and a net profit of IDR 141.39 billion or a growth of 7.68 percent yoy. Meanwhile, Central Sulawesi Bank had total assets of IDR7.62 trillion as of June 30, 2020 and a net profit of IDR77.28 billion or grew 45.76 percent yoy.

Most recently, Mega Corpora will become the new controlling shareholder of Bank Harda after the acquisition process is complete. Meanwhile, the acquisition is waiting for the EGMS of Bank Harda to approve the share acquisition, as well as permission from the OJK.

In terms of performance, Bank Harda's total assets amounted to Rp2.13 trillion as of September 30, 2020. The Company managed to record a net profit of Rp.48.39 billion during the first 9 months of this year. In the same period last year, the issuer coded as BBHI shares still recorded a net loss of IDR 6.71 billion.

In addition, CT has also succeeded in investing in shares of PT Bank Bengkulu. CT through Mega Corpora officially controls 26 percent of the BPD Bengkulu Province shares.

The total assets of Bank Bengkulu amounted to IDR7.42 trillion as of June 30, 2020, while its net profit reached IDR85.35 billion or grew 46.70 percent yoy.

Insurance

PT Mega Corpora becomes the owner of PT PFI Mega Life Insurance and PT Asuransi Umum Mega, with ownership of 51 percent and 99.99 percent, respectively. PT PFI Mega Life is engaged in the life insurance business, while PT Asuransi Umum Mega is engaged in the general insurance business.

Financing Companies

In the financing business, CT Corp is the major shareholder of PT Mega Auto Finance, PT Mega Central Finance. Both offer new or used motorbike and car financing, electronics and furniture, to multipurpose.

CT Corp is also the owner of PT Mega Finance, which is engaged in financing new motorbikes, electronic goods and multipurpose businesses.

Capital market

Mega Corp also oversees a securities company, namely PT Mega Capital Sekuritas, and PT Mega Capital Investama which has a business license in the investment manager sector.
