Spotify And Google Start Launching User Selection Collection
JAKARTA - Starting earlier this week, Spotify will launch a trial of the User Choice Billing (UCB) system for Spotify subscribers in certain markets around the world.
The trial was carried out as a follow-up to its announcement in March, at which time Spotify announced its plans with Google to introduce UCB to Android users.
"This experience will give Spotify users the freedom to subscribe and make purchases using their option of payment options," Spotify wrote in its announcement.
We believe that fair and open platforms enable better consumer experiences that also empower developers to innovate and thrive. That’s why we worked with @Google to introduce User Choice Billing. Learn more about the experience: https://t.co/oG9eFMMtlF pic.twitter.com/lwSVh28Spi

The music streaming platform company also hopes that in the future, Android users around the world will soon be able to choose how to pay for their Spotify subscriptions in the most suitable way for them.
"Spotify has publicly advocated for platform justice and expanded payment options over the years. We believe that a fair and open platform enables better and frictionless consumer experience that also empowers developers to imagine, innovate and develop," explained the company.
In a different blog Google says, apart from Spotify, Bumble has also decided to join and partner in the user's selection billing trial.
"We are working with their team and we anticipate their users will start seeing this option in applications in certain countries in the coming months," said Paul Feng, Vice President, Product Management on Google's blog.
The Users' Choice Collection trial has also now been extended to developers and users in the United States, Brazil, and South Africa. Previously, it was only available in Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, and the European Economic Zone.
Google has taken bold steps to help equalize, but this is just the beginning. We look forward to testing, learning, and repeating an ever-increasing experience for our users in markets around the world.
