Exclusive Vino G Bastian Never Fasts The Featured Film Character
JAKARTA - Vino G Bastian piled up success at the end of 2022. The two films he starred in received millions of viewers, Miracle Cell No. 7 and Qodrat. In addition, Vino was also named Best Actor of the Genre Drama of the Indonesian Journalist Film Festival XII in 2022.
As a player, Vino admitted that he honestly could not predict the success of the film he starred in. Because film is a collective work that is done together so that success is not only determined by the players.
"Actually, there is no formulation for a film to sell. It is asked to any promo team to be able to reach millions of viewers, the formula is not there," he said when he visited the VOI office, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta some time ago.
However, Vino believes that the role of Intellectual Property (IP) for a film can make viewers curious and encourage them to watch in theaters. "IP is quite important to build a fairly large base promotion. Miracle in Cell No. 7 and Warkop DKI Reborn are large IPs," said Vino, giving an example.
"DKI warkop is very big in Indonesia but Miracle in Cell No. 7 is still being questioned because he is big from films outside Korean adaptation. How can we make this film big here. Of course there are special ingredients from producers, directors, writers to get to the stage that has reached the film," he said.
Building a new IP is the most difficult challenge in a film. Like the Qodrat film that was just released by Magma Film and Rapi Film. Vino's first horror film was able to gain more than 1.3 million viewers in two weeks of its broadcast time. As an actor, Marsha Timothy's husband is trying his best to stay focused and total. "The problem is that later this film succeeds, the important thing is that the process was first worked on. Thank God this Miracle in Cell managed to reach 5 million viewers and it was quite a surprise for me personally and was quite proud because we didn't expect it to reach 5," he explained.
After the film Miracle Cell No. 7 went down to the screen, Vino returned with Qodrat and also managed to penetrate millions of viewers. "In number 2 or 3, we think it's been taken care of, let alone up to 5 million viewers." he said.
According to Vino, his acting success was not only measured by the number of viewers. However, how his role becomes an inspiration for the audience.
"The film Miracle Cell No.7 inspires children to love their families, in my opinion, that's an extraordinary bonus. It's a shame for this film," he explained.
When he received the role offer, Vino had imagined how to develop his character. Not wanting to do half-heartedly, Vino did research for the role of Dodo in Miracle Cell No. 7.
"From the beginning when I got the character dodo rozak. First of all, I didn't want this disability character to be wrong. Because if I'm wrong, I mess up the whole film. My first step came to the expert because I was really blind about disability. I brought this script to meet psychologist friends who justify what is right for this dodo rozak. Because the character is different from the original film, the psychologist said it was intellectual with moderate degree of disability plus there was an autistic," he recalled.
In addition, Vino also meets children with special needs and talks with other psychologists. "They have the same view of this character. Last time I came to the foundation of compassion, I saw his children directly how the intellectual character of disability is cross with autism," he said.
When this film penetrated 5 million viewers I felt calm that what we have been fighting for so far was not in vain. "And I received a lot of DM from psychologist friends, elementary school teachers, SLB, those disabled fighters who gave appreciation to Dodo Rozak," he said.
In Qodrat, Vino also applies the same process. CAREfully, Vino was accompanied by Rukyah's expert for his role as Ustaz.
"During filming, there were those who made sure that the reading and the rukyah process was done was not wrong. So they didn't just create scenes," he said.
Qodrat became the 12th Indonesian film with 1 million viewers. This figure will continue to grow considering the broadcast is still relatively short.
The horror genre is a new choice for Vino so he feels he has chosen the right step. "Actually, Qodrat is not the first horror film offer I've received. I got a lot of offers but it doesn't feel right. When I offered Qodrat, I seemed all right. The time is right. It can and the characters are very different from usual Indonesian horror films," said Vino.
"It's usually horror films that sellUS. Usually Ustaz horror films are just a complement, but here it's precisely from the ustaz side that builds the story. This Qodrat questions whether he deserves to be put into ustaz? I think this is right for my first horror film," said Vino G Bastian.
Despite having recorded many successes, Vino G Bastian still continues to hone his acting skills. He admitted that he was never satisfied with every role he played.
"If you are satisfied, you will never be satisfied, but when we play movies, when the name of our characters is better known than our own name, it makes me a success in itself," he explained.
In the past, during School End Records, Vino recalled, people called me Arian. "People don't know my name. When playing the reality of Love Rock n Roll, until now I have been called Ipang," he explained.
Vino is happy that his character can represent the voice of the audience that is difficult to convey. "I love playing films of young people because of that era there are no vocal films of young people who speak up about their identity. The children were silenced by the methods of their parents. In that age, I was able to play films that could represent young people at that time," he explained.
Not wanting to be arrogant, he admitted that not all the roles he played were successful. Many were forgotten by the audience after leaving the cinema.
"Then when I was in the Last Wolf, people knew me Jarot compared to Vino and but still not everything worked. Some were not successful," he said.
Dodo's role in Miracle in Cell No. 7 made him called Mr. Dodo. It made him proud.
"This Mr. Dodo made me not only beat my own name but people have forgotten that this character was once in South Korea. Then there was my friend mba Chintya Lamusu when she watched this film, she went to her father's grave, she missed her father. And that's not part of our promo team," he explained.
"It's very organic and maybe it's the effect that friends feel, everything is a different effect, some even recently he watched it, he's sad not because of the old man but he watches himself, there are no friends, while this film tells the story of friendship. It becomes a different inspiration again," he said.
Want to continue his career as an actor, Vino G Bastian will try to give the best for the audience. He is grateful for all the support he has received.
"For my subjective, thank God I was able to return to that point when I had achieved in previous films. Because it's not easy to make people believe it's Dodo Rozak and not Vino. And not necessarily in the future I can get this character or film of fun-blend so people forget who Vino is. So thank you very much," he concluded.
