Rizieq Shihab Becomes A Suspect, FPI Considered Criminalization

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has named the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Muhammad Rizieq Shihab as a suspect in the crowd case. FPI lawyer, Aziz Yanuar, considered the determination of this suspect's status as a criminalization against Rizieq.

"There is indeed a dual direction for criminalization and injustice against Habib Rizieq Shihab," said Aziz at the DPR building, Central Jakarta, Thursday, December 10.

From the start, Aziz admitted that he was aware of the police's efforts to target Rizieq Shihab directly in order to impose a criminal offense against the FPI leader.

According to Aziz, initially the police used Article 93 concerning the Health Quarantine Law in conjunction with Article 9 of the Criminal Code against alleged violations of health protocols during the Prophet's birthday and marriage in Petamburan.

However, next there is an investigation warrant (sprindik) with Rizieq Shihab as the reported using an additional article, namely Article 160 of the Criminal Code regarding incitement to crowds.

The case reported was the crowd of Maulid Nabi in Tebet. This has led to Rizieq's summons since 27 November.

"We have predicted the suspect's determination," said Aziz.

Previously, Rizieq was named a suspect in suspected crowd violations in Petamburan. There are 6 people named as suspects. First the organizer is the brother of MRS (Rizieq Shihab), "said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus.

Rizieq Shihab was charged with Article 160 and Article 216 of the Criminal Code. Meanwhile, the five other suspects were the committee for the wedding ceremony of Rizieq's daughter, Syarifah Najwa Shihab.

"(The suspect) is the head of the HU committee, the committee secretary is brother A, MS is in charge, SL is in charge of the event, and HI is the head of the event section," said Yusri.
