Once Asked Why PDIP Hasn't Made A Declaration Of A Presidential Candidate Even Though It Can Be Carried Out Without A Coalition, This Is Megawati's ANSWER

JAKARTA - PDIP DPP chairman Eriko Sotarduga admitted that he had asked PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri about the reason his party had not announced the presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2024 presidential election.

This was conveyed by Eriko in the release of the Indonesian Index survey regarding vice presidential and political party candidates for the 2024 General Election.

"I conveyed to the General Chairperson, 'Mom, why don't we declare it immediately?'," said Eriko, Sunday, November 6.

Eriko, who asked Megawati, said that on the one hand, PDIP could declare a presidential candidate without a coalition because it had the 2019 Pileg vote which exceeded the presidential nomination threshold or a presidential threshold of 20 percent.

Eriko said that Megawati answered her question. According to the daughter of the 1st President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno, PDIP can indeed declare a presidential candidate at any time. However, Megawati wants to ensure that her party's readiness to win the election in all regions.

"He said that like this, 'the declaration is whenever possible, decide when possible. But are we ready? This is also important'," said Eriko.

Eriko admitted that the party bearing the bull symbol has not optimal support in a number of areas that are not the PDIP election barn, including West Java, Banten, and North Sumatra.

"Indonesia's territory is not only certain areas. Winning is not just winning. Say that only four or five regions can win, it's not like that. Indonesia is not dominating. Well, we are currently working on that assessment," he explained.

In addition to asking party machines to continue to work to boost votes in a number of areas, Eriko continued, Megawati also invited cadres to pay attention to the country's situation.

He said Megawati wanted grassroots to the PDIP party elite not to forget the COVID-19 pandemic and the threat of an economic recession that could be felt by the community.

"This is why according to PDIP, we must not rush to determine this candidate even though Pak Jokowi conveyed it as soon as possible," he concluded.
