14 Days Towards The 2022 World Cup: Canada Ended Without Alphonso Davies

JAKARTA - Canada is unlikely to be strengthened by Alphonso Davies in the 2022 World Cup, after the Bayern Munich winger left the pitch as he limped out due to a hamstring injury as The Bavarins narrowly won 3-2 over Hertha Berlin on Saturday night.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann, who replaced Davies with another player in the 63rd minute, said the 22-year-old had a muscle injury to his leg.

"Regarding Fonsi ( Davies' nickname), according to doctors there is at least torn muscle fiber," Nagelsmann said at a post-match press conference quoted by Antara, Sunday.

"We have to wait until tomorrow or maybe tonight to learn how to be issued (the Bayern medical team)," he also said.

Canada played its first game against Belgium on November 23, and that means Davies only got less than three weeks to recover and enter the Canadian squad.

For Canada to host the 2026 World Cup, the Qatar 2022 Dunai Cup is their first World Cup since 1986.
