Denying BPOM, Ministry Of Trade Claims Not Involved In Importing Sirop Drug Cases
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has denied that it is involved in the importation of sirop drugs that require the chemical compounds of glycol (PG) and glycol polyethylene (PEG).
This answers the statement of the Head of BOMN which alludes to the authority of the Ministry of Trade regarding the importation of the chemical compound.
Acting (Plt) Director General of Foreign Trade (Daglu) of the Ministry of Trade, Didi Sumedi emphasized that chemical compounds PE and PEG are imported goods that are not regulated by import regulations.
This means, said Didi, that the chemical compounds PE and PEG are freely imported goods, because there are no restrictions and restrictions.
"The BPOM statement (statement) is not true, because the substance of the goods being discussed is imported goods whose import regulations are not regulated or free (non-rehibition and restrictions)," he said when contacted by VOI, Friday, November 4.
Therefore, Didi emphasized that his party had never issued or issued a press goal of importing the chemical compound.
"The Ministry of Trade does not issue or issue an Import Approval (PI)," he said.
Head of BPOM Penny K. Lukito said that the hazardous chemical raw materials, which recently caused hundreds of cases of acute kidney failure in children, entered the Ministry of Trade through the category of non-banning goods and restrictions. So, pikakanya cannot supervise.
"There is a gap that we have found that the raw materials used by the pharmaceutical industry do not go through the supervision of BPOM, but enter through non-rehibition and restrictions," said Penny in a working meeting with Commission IX of the DPR RI, Wednesday, November 2.
Penny explained that the pharmaceutical industry should use raw materials for drug manufacturing to have a pharmaceutical grade and obtain an import certificate (SKI) from BPOM so that it can be monitored.
Meanwhile, the chemicals that are later suspected to be the cause of acute kidney failure, namely Propilen Glikol (PG) and Poliethylene Glikol (PEG). Both of them can enter without having to pocket SKI from BPOM.
"Other active raw materials enter through BPOM, but specifically for PG and PEG solvents entering not through SKI BPOM, but through the Ministry of Trade the term is non-banning and limiting," said Penny.
"This means that BPOM cannot supervise quality and security when entering Indonesia," he added.
