Simultaneous Regional Election 2020 Begins, Citizens Riot Abstinence

JAKARTA - Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) 2020 are being held in a number of regions. The hashtag #Golput or the attitude not to vote for a candidate in the election was also boisterous on the Twitter social media scene.

Moreover, the implementation of the 2020 simultaneous regional elections took place during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even so, not a few netizens who uploaded photos of themselves continued to use their voting rights, while following the applicable health protocols.

On the other hand, the word "Serangan Fajar" also echoes among Indonesia's Twitter trending topics. A number of netizens also linked articles related to money politics during the 2020 simultaneous regional elections.

There are around 100.3 million people who are included in the 2020 Pilkada Permanent Voters List (DPT). Of these, the KPU is targeting a voter turnout rate of 77.5 percent.

This is the first time a democratic party has been held in a pandemic situation. The KPU has also prepared a number of new rules for the implementation of the 2020 Pilkada, which are accompanied by health protocols and prevention of transmission of the corona virus.

For example, every voter must wear a mask and have his body temperature checked first. Members of the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) at the TPS are also required to provide plastic gloves to voters and provide hand washing facilities.

As for Covid-19 patients, they can still use their voting rights. They will be accompanied by officers who come to the place of care or isolation.
