Google Street View Will Stop Operating Next Year

JAKARTA - Google often launches new services and tools with great fanfare, but ends with closures. The Street View app is also rumored to be closing soon.

Street View is a special application for those who want to dive into the world of 360 degrees of photos and videos from various locations around the world.

Users can contribute to this application by taking and uploading 360-degree images of themselves.

First reported 9to5Google, they discovered a notice of service termination in the latest update, version 2.0.0.484371618 of the Street View app available via the Google Play Store.

"The Street View app will be removed. The app will be discontinued and support will expire on March 21, 2023. To publish your own 360-degree video, switch to Street View Studio. To view Street View and add 360-degree Photos, use Google Maps," the announcement read.

As the message shows, the special Street View mobile app will close on March 21, 2023, but the Street View Studio web app will continue to be active.

While Street View functionality will only be available via Google Maps. In addition, undisclosed data shows that Photo Paths will also disappear.

This feature allows users to donate photos from areas that are rarely traversed. Unfortunately, a replacement for the Photo Paths feature will not be available.

However, if this is true, then it would be a sad ending to a great app, especially as Google recently celebrated 15 years of Street View.

Fortunately, Street View is still available on Google Maps, the layoff only applies to special apps or independent apps from Street View. This was quoted from XDA Developers, Thursday, November 3.
