Preventing Conflicts Of Interest, Yasonna Dismissed The Director General Of Immigration
JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Security (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly removed the Director General of Immigration Ronny F Sompie, the position will be replaced by Inspector General Jhoni Ginting. Yasonna revealed that the change of position was at the State Palace, Tuesday, January 28 at around 12.00 WIB.
"Now the Director General of Immigration is in Plh and the Director for the Education System," said Yassona, adding that this removal was carried out suddenly to avoid a conflict of interest.
Ronny was appointed by the Minister of Law and Human Rights around August 2015. His removal was today, after the Directorate General of Immigration was in the spotlight due to confusion over the return of KPK fugitive Harun Masiku from Singapore.
Harun is a suspect in the bribery case of KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan regarding the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the Indonesian Parliament for the 2019-2024 period. This candidate for PDI-P Electoral District of South Sumatra I was said to have been in Singapore since January 6 before the KPK's arrest operation (OTT) took place.
At that time, the Directorate General of Immigration said that Harun had not returned to Indonesia. However, recently the Directorate General of Immigration said the fugitive had returned to Indonesia. However, Harun's arrival was realized late due to a system change at Terminal 2F at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten.
Returning to the matter of Ronny's removal, Yasonna said this was done considering that there was an independent team investigating the late immigration incident knowing that Harun was already in Indonesia. He wanted this team to work optimally without any conflicts of interest.
"So that there is no conflict of interest in the independent team," he said.
The independent team is filled by the Ministry of Communication and Information, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cyber Police, the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).
"I want it to be completely open and the team can later track why the delay occurred, why the data was stored on the Terminal 2 Airport PC (Soetta)," said Yassona.
Meanwhile, confirmed by VOI, Jhoni Ginting said he had accepted the assignment as the new immigration director general. In fact, tonight he represented Minister Yasonna to give a statement on a private television station program.
"I got (the letter) this afternoon and it's temporary until there is a definitive one," he said.
