The Prosecutor Charged With Fraud In The Neymar Transfer Case From Santos To Barcelona 2013 Silam
JAKARTA Spain prosecutors officially dropped all charges of fraud and corruption against Brazilian striker Neymar and other defendants in the player's transfer from Santos to Barcelona in 2013.
Prosecutors initially demanded a two-year prison sentence and a fine of 10 million euros (Rp154 billion) against Neymar in the case brought by Brazilian investment firm DIS. However, all charges and charges were later withdrawn.
"There is not the slightest crime," prosecutor Luis Garcia Canton said after all the defendants testified at the trial at Barcelona as reported by CNA. Garcia then asked the judge to release all the defendants.
Other defendants in this case include Neymar's parents, the two clubs, former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, and former president Santos Odilio Rodrigues.
The public prosecutor also actually demanded a five-year prison sentence for former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and a fine of 8.4 million euros for Barcelona.
At the beginning of the trial, DIS said it demanded a five-year prison sentence for Neymar and a total fine of 149 million euros for the defendants.
A source close to the Neymar family said their lawyer Baker Mckenzie would charge a personal prosecution for what they consider carelessness, acting in bad faith and for abuse of the process.
DIS is known to have a 40 percent right over Neymar when he was 17 years old in exchange for 2 million euros. The company filed a lawsuit for assuming the transfer value of Neymar was deliberately reduced.
Barcelona in its confession said the cost of Neymar's move was 57.1 million euros. A total of 40 million euros of that amount was paid to Neymar's family, while DIS received 40 percent of the remaining 17.1 million paid to Santos.
