US Head Of Vaccine Development Optimistic Vaccines Lasting For Years
JAKARTA - The head of vaccine development for the United States (US), Moncef Slaoui, believes that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by his country has a long effect. His belief refers to recent studies related to vaccines that show the effectiveness of vaccines will last for many years.
Launching CNA, Monday, December 7, Slaoui revealed that the effects of vaccines also have different time stages according to age. The elderly or people who are more vulnerable, said Slaoui, need the COVID-19 vaccination every three to five years.
After being vaccinated, Slaoui revealed that the body's response to the COVID-19 virus would be much faster. Because, one of the advantages of the immune system is memory.
However, Slaoui has not been able to answer whether the person being vaccinated can spread it to others. Slaoui only answered that it could be known before entering February or March, the time after the first phase of vaccination was carried out in the US.
To that end, Slaoui appealed to US citizens who have been vaccinated later to continue to be careful by continuing to carry out the COVID-19 prevention protocol. Which is done to protect themselves and others who have not been exposed to the COVID-19 vaccine.
So far the US has confirmed 14,759,800 cases of COVID-19 transmission. Among them, there were 281,878 cases died. This number is predicted to fall when about 70 to 80 percent of the total US population has been given the COVID-19 vaccine.
