The Rupiah Is Still Shadowed By The Corona Virus, Weakening To IDR 13,644 Per US Dollar
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market was unable to withstand the onslaught of the corona virus and was closed at Rp 13,644 per US dollar (US) at the close of trading this Tuesday, January 28.
This position was corrected 0.21 percent compared to Monday's closing January 27 at Rp.13,615 per US dollar.
The weakening of the rupiah occurred due to the strong US dollar after growing fears of a deadly corona virus.
Moreover, the latest data shows that the number of victims due to the corona virus has reached 106 with a new case rate of 4,500. Not to mention, the corona virus has spread to at least 16 countries.
The movement of regional currencies tends to vary. The Malaysian ringgit was the weakest currency against the greenback after dropping 0.67 percent.
Quarter three money, the baht also weakened 0.53 percent. Followed by the Taiwan dollar fell 0.25 percent and the Singapore dollar and Hong Kong dollar fell 0.09 percent and 0.02 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee became the strongest currency after gaining 0.13 percent. Japanese yen also managed to stay in the green zone after strengthening 0.07 percent. The Philippine peso and the Korean won also gained 0.06 percent and 0.02 percent, respectively.
