Could Spider-Man Have A Polyamory Relationship With Iceman And Firestar?

JAKARTA - Any series featuring a group of close friends usually generates speculation from fans; "Do any of them like each other?" Yes, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends is no exception.

Launching CBR, Monday, December 7, the series centers on Peter Parker's friendship with his superhero friends, Iceman and Firestar. With them, Spidey did everything.

The series tends to lead to more sexual interactions between characters. Many scenes show the main characters flirting with each other and then dating and they appear physically intimate with each other.

There is evidence to suggest that the characters may be closer than expected and much of the series alludes to the idea that Spider-Man, Firestar and Iceman are in a polyamorous relationship.

Intimacy Between Spider-Man and Firestar

It's no secret. Spider-Man has a long romantic relationship with Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson in this series. In contrast, the closest woman in his life, outside of Aunt May, is Angelica Jones / Firestar. Although most interactions between Peter and Angelica are platonic and friendly, there are moments of physical intimacy between them.

Most strikingly, during season 3, episode 6; Spidey Meets the Girl from Tomorrow, Peter goes into the future for a while at the end of the episode. As he said goodbye to his friends, perhaps for the last time, Firestar kissed him on the lips twice in the span of a few seconds.

This is a little more intimate than the way friends usually say goodbye, especially considering that neither Firestar nor Peter seem surprised by this. The two of them acted as if this was an ordinary interaction between them.

How did the Iceman enter into this polyamorous relationship?

The Iceman is the third tricky wheel in the relationship. He appears to be equally close to Peter and Firestar, being part of Spider-Friends. However, the question remains: who attracted the Iceman to?

In modern comic books, Bobby Drake is a gay mutant, he often presents himself as a female man (lady's man). When Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends was produced, Iceman was also popular with women. Because of this, Iceman's actions can be read throughout the series through two lenses: as an introverted gay man or as a flirtatious man and woman.

If Bobby is straight in this continuity, then he's going to flirt with Firestar, making Angelica the center of a polyamory relationship. However, if he's an introverted gay guy, maybe Firestar is after Peter.

This again begs the question: if Iceman is gay, is his feelings being reciprocated by Peter, or is it one-sided love? If the crush was mutual, it would make Peter Parker a bisexual man.

While Iceman does share intimate moments with Firestar, he appears to be a lot closer to Peter, as these two amazing Spider-Man friends identify with themselves through their relationship with Spider-Man.

If Firestar was at the center of this polyamorous relationship, the series would probably be called Firestar and Her Amazing Friends, not the other way around.

All of this shows that, if this is really a polyamory relationship, Peter is the centerpiece of his super concubine friend. Either that, or Spider-Man is surrounded by people who like him, while he remains oblivious to it.
