The Capacity Of Isolation Beds For COVID-19 Patients In Jakarta Is Getting Thin

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that there has been an increase in the filling of the beds for COVID-19 isolation patients in Jakarta.

Currently, the capacity of isolation beds in 98 referral hospitals is running low, reaching 79 percent. This figure is almost touching the 80 percent threshold for concern set by WHO.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government noted that the percentage of daily use of isolation beds (inpatient rooms) has continued to increase over the past month. As of December 5, 2020, 4,960 of 6,302 or 79 percent of isolation beds have been filled in 98 hospitals in Jakarta," said Anies in written statement, Sunday, December 7th.

Based on the data, the number of filled isolation beds continues to increase every week. In details, the occupancy of isolation beds was 56 percent on November 7, 63 percent on November 14, 73 percent on November 21, and 79 percent on November 28.

Anies also revealed that the ICU room capacity for COVID-19 patients was increasing. Currently, 71 percent of the COVID-19 ICU rooms are occupied, or 620 of the 874 rooms have been used in 98 referral hospitals.

The ICU room usage rates were 60 percent on November 7, 68 percent on November 14, 70 percent on November 21, and 72 percent on November 28, respectively.

Anies explained the use of 98 referral hospitals in more detail. The highest use of isolation places and ICU for COVID-19 patients is in private hospitals.

"58 private hospitals have a total isolation room of 2,411 beds with an use rate of 86 percent and a total ICU room of 192 beds with an usability rate of 79 percent," said Anies.

Then, from 19 hospitals that have a total isolation room of 1,645 beds, currently the level of use is 78 percent. Then, from a total ICU room of 247 beds, now the usability rate is 75 percent.

Furthermore, of the 6 state-owned / ministerial hospitals that have a total of 776 beds of isolation rooms, currently the utilization rate is 74 percent. Then, from a total of 143 ICU beds, now the utilization rate is 76 percent.

Of the 9 vertical hospitals that have a total of 643 beds of isolation rooms, currently the utilization rate is 68 percent. Then, from the total ICU room of 160 beds, now the utilization rate is 74 percent.

Of the 6 TNI / Polri hospitals that have a total isolation room of 827 beds, the current level of use is 72 percent. Then, from the total ICU room of 132 beds, now the utilization rate is 43 percent.

Anies said, increasing bed occupancy and isolation of COVID-19 patients was one of the considerations for his party to decide to extend the transitional PSBB period.

"Based on the assessment from BNPB and FKM UI, we decided to extend the Transitional Period PSBB until December 21, 2020," said Anies.
